Sleeper Bus Program Expands

Matthew’s Hope, a homeless outreach nonprofit, plans to launch a sleeper bus program in Orange County by mid-2026, providing a safe place for individuals to rest for up to three nights.

The effort is a partnership with the city of Apopka. It is backed by a $787,000 Orange County contract, responding to Florida’s House Bill 1365, which bans public sleeping and has prompted communities to find alternatives for those without shelter.

The organization refurbishes used coach buses into mobile sleeping spaces, each equipped with 20 individual bunk beds, quality mattresses, climate control, lighting, and power outlets. The buses will be staffed by security personnel and a driver.

In Brevard County, the nonprofit offers 60 homeless shelter beds in three buses. Matthew’s Hope founder Pastor Scott Billue says the service isn’t a permanent housing solution but helps people get the restorative sleep they lack on the streets.

SpaceX Defends Airspace Safety

With plans to launch the massive Starship from Florida next year, SpaceX defended its commitment to airspace safety after a Wall Street Journal article claimed an explosive mission in early 2025 was a greater danger to some flights than previously reported.

The article cited Federal Aviation Administration documents stating that debris from the Jan. 16 launch from SpaceX’s Texas site, Starbase, which led to the upper stage disintegrating on its flight path, threatened three airplane flights.

The debris field could be seen from Florida, the Bahamas, and several Caribbean islands as the broken-up spacecraft streaked across the sky.

SpaceX emphasized that public safety is paramount, stating that potential debris is contained within predefined hazard zones and that they coordinate launches with the FAA and the Space Force.
