Own The Flyover

We’re So Close. This Is the Moment.

We’re entering the final stretch of our campaign to reach 2,000 reader-investors, and we’re closer than ever. Eleven days ago, we set out with a simple but ambitious goal: prove that everyday Americans—not corporations or political machines—can build a trustworthy, independent newsroom together.

Today, we’re within striking distance.

If you’ve been thinking about investing…If you’ve been waiting for the right moment…
If you’ve wondered whether your contribution truly matters… This is that moment.
Every new investor helps strengthen something rare in American media: a reader-owned outlet committed to honesty, fairness, and fact-first reporting. Reaching 2,000 investors means more state editions, and more accountability—without compromising our independence.

We are so close to showing the country that a different kind of media company can exist—and thrive. But we can’t finish this without you.

If The Flyover has earned your trust, we hope you’ll take that final step with us.

Article Icon 1Rep. Cory Mills Under Investigation

The House Ethics Committee established an investigative subcommittee on Wednesday to look into the conduct of U.S. Rep. Cory Mills, a Republican from the 7th Congressional District in North Central Florida.

Mills was the subject of a proposed censure resolution by fellow Republican Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina. Her effort failed, with the House voting 310-103 to refer the resolution to the House Ethics Committee.

The investigation will be wide-ranging and look into whether Mills violated campaign finance laws, misused congressional resources, or engaged in sexual misconduct or violence.

Mills, now serving his second term, was ordered last month by a Florida judge to have no contact with his ex-girlfriend and not to go within 500 feet of her residence or place of work. Mills is also prohibited from referring to her on social media.

Article Icon 1Mystery Surrounds Cruise Ship Death

The death of 18-year-old Anna Kepner, who was found dead on a Carnival cruise ship, is still under FBI investigation and making headlines without authorities disclosing any findings or the cause of her death.

A student and cheerleader at Temple Christian School in Titusville, Kepner’s body was found under a bed, wrapped in a blanket, and covered in life jackets two weeks ago on the Carnival Horizon.

Sources said Kepner complained of illness and returned to her cabin on the evening of Nov. 6. The next morning, a housekeeper found her body.

Kepner’s stepmother, Shauntel Hudson, who was on the cruise with her, said FBI investigators informed her that “a criminal case may be initiated” against one of her minor children. Court documents show Kepner’s 16-year-old stepbrother, identified as “TH,” has been named a suspect in her death.

Article Icon 1Beachfront Owners Win Private Use Appeal

A federal appeals court ruled this week that beachfront property owners should receive compensation because Walton County prevented them from using privately owned portions of the beach during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A three-judge panel of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned an earlier decision by a federal trial judge who rejected arguments that a move by the Walton County Commission to close beaches in the spring of 2020 resulted in an unconstitutional “taking” of property.

Walton County not only entered private property; Walton County also ejected the Landowners from their property on threat of arrest and criminal prosecution. That is a taking, not a trespass,” Judge Barbara Lagoa wrote.
