Uthmeier Investigates JPMorgan Chase
Attorney General James Uthmeier launched an investigation into JPMorgan Chase, stating that the financial institution had cooperated with a politically motivated federal probe targeting the Sarasota-based Trump Media & Technology Group and other Florida entities.
In a letter to JPMorgan Chase’s Chairman and CEO Jamie Dimon, Uthmeier cited “explosive revelations” about the bank’s alleged involvement in “Operation Arctic Frost.”
The Justice Department initiative, linked to Special Counsel Jack Smith and the Biden Administration, involved the subpoena of sensitive financial data from Republican political figures and Florida-based organizations.
According to Uthmeier, JPMorgan Chase “de-banked” Trump Media Group at a critical moment, just before it went public. The attorney general said this action harmed the company financially and may have been politically motivated.
Uthmeier warned that JPMorgan’s actions violated the “basic, fundamental duties owed to banking customers,” directing the Office of Statewide Prosecution and Enforcement Division to open an investigation.
Palm Beach Gardens Man Threatens Genocide
A Palm Beach Gardens man is facing felony charges after being arrested for making online threats against local churches, saying that he would make his acts “look like a genocide.”
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said Michael Iaboni, 32, vowed to carry out mass violence at “megachurches,” including at Christ Fellowship’s main campus on Northlake Boulevard, which is less than 2 miles from his home.
Detectives from the Targeted Violence Unit confirmed that Iaboni had recently signed up for a church program and had been seen frequenting the location.
The investigation began after a Crime Stoppers tip alerted authorities to disturbing videos posted on Facebook under the account “Michael A Iaboni.”
Nights of Lights Parking Concerns
Traffic congestion has been an ongoing problem for St. Augustine’s annual Nights of Lights event, which begins Saturday and runs through Jan. 11. City leaders have made changes this year, hoping to improve the experience, but some business owners have expressed concerns.
With St. Johns County contributing more money for the event, St. Augustine has expanded park-and-ride shuttles, planned new pedestrian and vehicular barricades, designated rideshare zones, and will provide additional public restrooms.
The city has also implemented resident-only parking, which will require a pass, in the Flagler Model Land Company, Abbott Tract, and Uptown neighborhoods near Downtown.
Business owners, though, have voiced concerns to the City Commission this week that the parking changes will limit the flow of customers. They unsuccessfully lobbied for shuttle stops in Uptown to encourage more foot traffic in the area.
