On Friday, lawmakers filed another 15 bills to be considered during the upcoming 60-day Florida 2026 legislative session, which begins on Jan. 13

The latest bills deal with a variety of issues, including non-nursing parity, insurance regulations, and presidential elections. See the full list here.

House Bill 221, dubbed the On-the-Job Workforce Training Act, would make changes to the minimum wage standards in Florida to allow an employee to opt out of receiving the state’s minimum wage by signing a waiver.

House Bill 223 would remove restrictions on naturopathic medicinal practices in the state, instead requiring practitioners to be licensed in Florida under a new Board of Naturopathic Medicine.

Florida has filed a complaint with the U.S. Supreme Court against the states of California and Washington, saying that damage has been caused as a result of their failure to comply with federal safety and immigration status requirements.

Attorney General James Uthmeier filed the federal lawsuit over the states’ “sanctuary” polices after the arrest of a truck driver from California who is accused of killing three people on a Florida turnpike in St. Lucie County.

Here in Florida, we can do everything right. We can enforce the law. We can combat illegal immigration. But we still suffer when Gavin Newsom and liberals on the West Coast allows these illegals in, encourage them and enable them. And then cross the country and take lives,” Uthmeier said.

The complaint asks the Supreme Court to declare the actions of California and Washington an “actionable public nuisance” and to issue injunctions against the two states from continuing to issue licenses to people in the country illegally.

Article Icon 1Pregnant Inmate Found Guilty of Murder

Daisy Link, a 30-year-old Miami-Dade County inmate whose case gained global attention after she became pregnant while in jail, was found guilty of second-degree murder in the 2022 shooting death of her boyfriend, Pedro Jimenez.

Jurors deliberated for less than two hours following closing arguments. Prosecutors stated that Link fired at Jimenez while he was attempting to flee and that she misled authorities by claiming she found him injured in an alleyway.

Link made headlines in 2024 after she claimed she got pregnant with no physical contact through a scheme involving another inmate, in hopes it would lead to her freedom.

Investigators said Link and inmate Joan Depaz used a lapse in the jail’s security to pass semen through an air vent using plastic wrap and string. The incident led to significant security changes at Miami-Dade jails.

Unknown Number Calling? It’s Not Random

The BBC caught scam call center workers on hidden cameras as they laughed at the people they were tricking. One worker bragged about making $250k from victims. The disturbing truth? Scammers don’t pick phone numbers at random. They buy your data from brokers.

Once your data is out there, it’s not just calls. It’s phishing, impersonation, and identity theft. That’s why we recommend Incogni: They delete your info from the web, monitor for new threats, and keep erasing your data as new risks appear.
