Article Icon 1Uthmeier Calls Out Worrell on Pedophile Cases

At a news conference on Friday, Attorney General James Uthmeier accused Monique Worrell, the state attorney for Orange and Osceola counties, of being soft on crime for not prosecuting or pressing charges in recent pedophile cases.

Uthmeier cited two child predator cases taken by the state, one being prosecuted for the rape of infants and toddlers. This was Uthmeier’s second press conference in a month targeting Worrell, whom Gov. Ron DeSantis removed from office in 2023 before she subsequently won reelection.

Worrell held a news conference to respond to Uthmeier’s comments. She rebutted the accusations and called the attorney general’s lack of experience in prosecuting cases and understanding criminal law “dangerous.”

In April, Uthmeier offered to provide lawyers to help Worrell with a 13,000-case backlog, including suspects never arrested due to weak evidence or warrant delays. Worrell paused work on non-arrest cases due to understaffing.

Article Icon 1Bite-Resistant Wetsuits for Shark Attacks

Scientists from Australia are touting the results of bite-resistant wetsuit materials to reduce deaths from shark attacks. Product testing revealed that catastrophic injuries can still occur while wearing the wetsuits, but the materials were found to lessen damage from bites.

Researchers tested four wetsuit materials—Aqua Armour, Shark Stop, ActionTX-S, and Brewster—provoking white and tiger sharks, the two species responsible for the most unprovoked attacks, to bite the material as it was dragged behind a boat.

With 10 shark bites reported in Florida in 2025, swimmers, surfers, and divers are looking for new ways to stay safe. Chainmail wetsuits, created in the 1970s, don’t offer the flexibility of movement necessary for activities like surfing and diving.

Article Icon 1Orlando Named No. 2 Coffee City

Orlando came in a close second to Portland, Oregon, as the top coffee city in the country, thanks to “coffee-crazy households” who “spend an average of over $154 on the beverage each year.”

According to a survey by the National Coffee Association, 66% of Americans drink coffee daily. WalletHub explored which 100 largest U.S. cities are most devoted to coffee.

Their data considered 12 factors, including the number of coffee shops per capita, the average price of coffee, and the percentage of residents with coffee makers at home.

Miami ranked No. 4, while Tampa brewed its way to No. 6. Long Beach, California, was No. 3, and Seattle, Washington, was No. 5.
