President Trump announced on Friday that the 2026 G20 Summit will be hosted at his Doral resort in Miami. The president noted it’s just five minutes from the airport.

It’s the best location, it’s beautiful, beautiful everything,” Trump said. “We will not make any money on it.”

The U.S. will host the G20 for the first time in nearly 20 years. The 2025 summit is slated to take place in November in South Africa.

The G20 consists of 19 nations and two regional bodies, representing most of the world’s major economies. The summit is scheduled for Dec. 14-15, 2026.

Article Icon 1Rents Rise in Florida for Multifamily Units

Rent for multifamily units in Florida rose by 39% between 2019 and 2023, according to a study by UF Shimberg Center for Housing Studies.

We saw the extreme rise in rents going back to the pandemic days, and things have remained high as production pretty much came to a grinding halt for that period of time,” Florida Housing Coalition CEO Ashon Nesbitt said.

Homelessness rose by 28% during the same time period. The report estimates that 41,847 families are doubled up with others or staying in hotels and motels, partially due to the unavailability of low-cost options.

In Palm Coast, for instance, only 28 to 39 rental units are available per 100 renters whose income is below 60 percent of the area median income, compared to 88 to 102 units for those whose income is 100 percent or above the area median income.

Article Icon 1Bill Proposes Change to State Bird

Rep. Jim Mooney (R-Islamorada) refiled legislation to name the American flamingo as Florida’s state bird and the blue-and-gray scrub-jay as the state’s official songbird.

The flamingo is an iconic symbol of Florida, widely recognized and celebrated for its vibrant presence in our state’s culture and ecosystems. It’s time for Florida to have a state bird that truly represents its uniqueness,” Mooney said.

It’s not the first time Mooney has suggested a change to the state bird. Earlier this year, he filed legislation that failed to gain traction in the House of Representatives.

The mockingbird has been the state bird since 1927.
