Tampa Bay Rays for Sale
The Tampa Bay Rays announced that the team is in advanced talks to be sold for $1.7 billion to a group that includes Jacksonville-based home developer Patrick Zalupski.
Rumors that owner Stu Sternberg was in talks to sell the team have been circulating since March, when the plan for a new Tampa Bay Rays stadium in St. Petersburg fell apart.
Mayor Jane Castor is encouraging the team to stay in Tampa Bay, saying she is “optimistic that any new ownership will recognize the passion of our fans and the value of keeping the team rooted where they’ve been supported from the start.”
Sternberg led the group that purchased the Rays from original owner Vince Naimoli in 2004. He became the club’s principal owner in October 2005. He rebranded the franchise from the “Devil Rays” to the Rays in 2008.
A new study reveals how our brains decide if we like or loathe a smell. Until now, it was unknown what connects the parts of the brain vital to generating an emotional response with those responsible for smell perception.
“Your sense of smell is your most emotional sense,” first author and graduate research fellow Sarah Sniffen said. “Smells evoke strong, emotional memories.”
In the future, the research could help patients who struggle with heightened sensory responses in their everyday lives.
Tallahassee Named Best-Run City
Tallahassee is Florida’s best-run city and No. 18 nationally, according to a WalletHub study released this week. The study weighs factors such as education systems, resident health, and economic conditions.
According to the ranking, Tallahassee’s placement was largely due to its budget, with the quality of its city services ranking 18th in the country.
Jacksonville, No. 19, also ranked high for its budget and was eighth overall for infrastructure, the highest ranking for any category for a Florida city. The next highest-ranked Florida city was St. Petersburg, at No. 42.
Nationwide, the top-ranked city is Provo, Utah, followed closely by Nampa, Idaho (No. 2) and Manchester, New Hampshire (No. 3).
