Question: Where in Florida was The Beach Coaster, which operated from 1928 to 1949?
Answer: Jacksonville Beach
In August, 1926, W. H. Adams opened the Ocean View amusement park on the site of his former hotel and encouraged the construction of a large roller coaster in 1928 to imitate Coney Island coasters. The coaster was 93 feet tall, making it the tallest structure in Jacksonville Beach at the time. The 50-mph wooden roller coaster was known as The Beach Coaster and was the first and only coaster Jacksonville Beach has ever had. The former amusement park was located in the vicinity of where the Bandshell and the Jacksonville Beach Pier stand today. Much of the area where the park was located was destroyed by Hurricane Dora in 1964.
