A shooting at Florida State University left two dead and at least six others injured, according to reports as of yesterday evening.

Jessica Ikner, the alleged shooter’s mother, is a sheriff’s deputy with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office and has 18 years of experience. Phoenix Ikner, 20, reportedly used one of his mother’s firearms to carry out the attack before being shot by officers. He is now recovering in custody.

Witnesses described the shooter as a normal-looking college student arriving on campus in an orange GMC Hummer just before noon. He opened fire with a rifle and a pistol at the student union.

Victims are receiving treatment at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare.

Article Icon 1Florida Moves Closer to a Statewide Fluoride Ban

On Wednesday, the Senate passed a bill by a 27-9 vote that moves Florida closer to outlawing the addition of fluoride to municipal water supplies.

The provision is part of the larger 111-page Florida farm bill addressing a range of issues. The fluoride component has sparked the most debate, and the bill now heads to the House for consideration.

Amendments to allow local communities to include fluoride if desired failed. Supporters argue that fluoride is unnecessary and potentially harmful, while opponents—including some dental health experts—emphasize its importance in preventing tooth decay.

After an audit by the Palm Beach County Inspector General, the city of Pahokee could not account for nearly $2 million in taxpayer revenue.

The report highlights potential fraud by the city’s former manager, Chandler Williamson, and has been referred to the State Attorney’s office for possible criminal charges.

Findings included overpayments to contractors, inappropriate credit card charges, and unauthorized purchases lacking proper documentation.

The auditor indicated that the misappropriation of funds dates back at least 10 years and involved numerous city employees.
